I have been the High School Computer Lab Proctor at York One Academy for almost 5 years. I am a York native and graduated from York Comprehensive High School. After High School, I attended and graduated from Winthrop in Rock Hill, SC. Later, I met my wife and we moved to Fort Mill, where we lived for over 30 years while working in Rock Hill and Charlotte. We adopted our daughter from Romania in 1991. She now is married and has 2 daughters of her own. Being a grandparent is truly Grand.
5 years ago, we decided to leave Fort Mill and moved "across the river" back to York. Having spent many years in the business world, I felt I needed a change. I came upon the opportunity to work with students here at YOA. It has been very rewarding as I hope to make a difference in how they think about their future both in high school and beyond graduation.

My name is De'Arron Smith. I was born and raised in Gaffney, SC. I am married, and we have a son and a daughter on the way. I have been working in education for the past 10 years, recently in the Cherokee County School District. My roles here in York School District One are Head Varsity Girls Basketball Coach at York Comprehensive High and computer lab specialist at York One Academy. There are a few things I want the students that I work with to gain from working with me; the first thing is confidence. If you don’t believe in yourself, then who will? Second, control what you can control. You can control your behavior and the grades that you make.
